Bill Gives ID Theft Victims More Weapons
Wednesday, September 24, 2008
A bill aimed at cybercriminals finally awaits President Bush's signature, after the House of Representatives passed it earlier this week. The bill increases the penalties for convictions on many cybercrimes, and makes it easier for federal agencies to pursue cybercriminals. Proposed by Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, the bill gives victims of identity theft the ability to seek restitution for the loss of time and money spent restoring credit, and makes it a felony to employ spyware or keyloggers to damage ten or more computers.
