Children Plus Strangers Plus the Internet
Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Be afraid. According to a recent study of 1,030 parents and 1,000 children, one in five British children has actually gone to meet a stranger that they first encountered online — and as many as one in four 8-to-12-year olds ignore age restrictions on social-networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace.com and Bebo. Two-thirds of the youngsters interviewed said that they had posted personal information on their pages, including details of the school that they attend and their mobile-telephone number. This alarming survey was conducted by online-identity experts, and you can read all about it at BBC News.
