China 1, iTunes 0
Wednesday, August 27, 2008
The trouble started when Olympic athletes started downloading an album of protest songs from Apple Inc.'s iTunes store. The album, including songs by Sting, Rush, Damien Rice, Underworld, and Alanis Morissett had been compiled by a U.S.-based Tibetan activist group which invited athletes to download the album free of charge in Beijing. About 40 athletes took them up on the offer before China shut down all access to the iTunes store. Apparently, Apple claimed that the store is being blocked by Chinese Internet providers, but no one knows for sure. See The Guardian for more.
