Judge Nixes Gag Order Against MIT Students
Wednesday, August 27, 2008
Yes! Following up on a story we listed last week, a federal judge has lifted the gag order that prevented three MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) students from talking about flaws they found in the electronic payment cards used by Boston's subway and bus lines. The students were scheduled to talk about their research at the recent DEFCON conference, but had to cancel their address after the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority) won a restraining order. As it happens, the gag order did little good, as the DEFCON conference CD already contained the students' presentation, as did the MBTA's public court filing. Sheesh! Read all about it at SecurityFocus.
