McAfee Inc. Fixes Flaw in Mac Anti-Virus Software

Everyone who watches those cute TV commercials in which the Mac and the PC compare themselves knows that Macs are less likely to fall victim to hacker attacks than PCs. Except when they're not. Anti-virus vendor McAfee recently reported — and repaired — a flaw in its own anti-virus program for Mac OS X. That flaw allowed attackers to bypass the anti-virus program's malware scanner and gain elevated system privileges, which they could use to access local, authenticated command execution. McAfee recommends that users of its anti-virus application apply a patch that has been pushed to all of the company's live-update servers. To find out more, see SearchSecurity.com's article.
