PCI DSS 1.2 Clarifies Wireless, Anti-Virus Use

Fasten your seat belts. Version 1.2 of the DSS (Data Security Standards), just issued by the PCI Security Standards Council, clarifies wireless security requirements, new anti-virus rules and network firewall settings. The new requirements, which are expected to take effect in October, also adjust the time frame for review of firewall rules from quarterly to every six months. In addition, a number of clarifications have been issued to address cardholder data in a wireless environment. "Version 1.2 should be seen as an improvement, not a departure from tried and true best security practices," said Bob Russo, general manager of the PCI Security Standards Council.
