Porno Not Her Fault
Three years ago, pornographic pop-ups appeared on a computer used by Connecticut teacher Julie Amero in full view of her students. The teacher was charged with multiple counts of risk of injury to a minor. Despite Amero's protests of innocence, a jury — believing that she had been visiting porn sites — convicted her. Subsequently, a judge threw out the jury's verdict on forensic evidence that the pop-up ads had indeed been caused by malicious code on the system, not by Amero's actions. Now, 13 months later, Amero's supporters are urging Connecticut prosecutors to drop all remaining charges against her. The case spotlights the increasingly murky areas where malware may cause your computer to display porn without any improper action from you. Read all about it at SecurityFocus.
