Two-Thirds Hit by Cybercrime
Wednesday, October 1, 2008
According to the Department of Justice's newly-released 2005 National Computer Security Survey, fully two-thirds of responding firms detected at least one cybercrime during that year. Security Focus reported that more than 7,800 companies responded to the survey, which found that three-quarters of cyberattacks came from external sources, while three-quarters of cyberthefts were inside jobs. Only 6 percent of cyberattacks were reported to authorities — and computer viruses made up more than half of those. Check out the full Department of Justice report here.
