WordPress Opens Back Door to Hackers

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

A major security vulnerability has been discovered in WordPress blogging software, allowing attackers to bypass security restrictions and elevate their rights to the equivalent of the site administrator. Hackers can then post malicious code that could strike the attacked site's visitors. According to Network Information Security & Technology News, WordPress has released a security fix, but since the popular application is open source, it's easy for bad guys to thwart the new security code. Nonetheless, if you run a WordPress-based site, you should upgrade to WordPress 2.5.1 as soon as possible.
